Asad founded and built GLA & Company’s Antitrust & Competition and Data Privacy practices from the ground up into two of the most active and highly regarded regulatory practices in the MENA region. He is a recognised authority in merger control and competition law, performing comprehensive antitrust risk assessments, navigating cross-border distribution and commercial arrangements, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. In Data Privacy, he advises on data protection compliance across the GCC and has authored chapters for Chambers Global Practice Guides and The Legal 500 on Data Protection & Privacy for Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. A prolific author and speaker, Asad has contributed to both Chambers and The Legal 500’s flagship comparative guides on merger control and data privacy for multiple consecutive years, spoken at the ABA’s Annual Antitrust Law Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., and serves as a Committee Member of the International Bar Association’s Anti-Trust Section.
Asad is a seasoned corporate lawyer with extensive experience in structuring, negotiating, and executing complex transactions. His transactional practice spans sophisticated M&A matters, including conducting comprehensive due diligence for high-value mergers and acquisitions across sectors such as renewable energy, financial services, education, and healthcare. He advises on asset purchase agreements, intellectual property licensing arrangements, professional services contracts, and confidentiality agreements, consistently delivering commercially pragmatic solutions that bridge complex legal requirements with real-world business objectives.
Before turning to law, Asad spent over a decade as a registered respiratory therapist — the youngest graduate of his program and its class president — a rare, practical grounding in a regulated industry that continues to inform his approach to merger control and regulatory matters involving healthcare and life sciences. He is admitted to the Ohio State Bar and the Ohio State Medical Board (Respiratory Care).
Asad was awarded the Rising Star Award by The Law MEA in 2023; was named a nominee for the Antitrust Writing Awards (Business, Africa and the Middle East category) in 2025 in connection with his co-authored COMESA article; and was recognized as a Rising Star Lawyer in both Corporate & M&A and Project Development in IFLR1000’s 2025 Kuwait rankings. In 2025, GLA & Co. as a whole earned 12 nominations at the Legal Community MENA Awards.
Asad is a prolific author and speaker on antitrust and data privacy law across the GCC. He has authored chapters for Chambers Global Practice Guides and The Legal 500’s Country Comparative Guides on both Merger Control and Data Protection & Privacy for multiple GCC jurisdictions over consecutive annual editions, making him one of the most consistently published individual authors on GCC antitrust and data privacy law. He has also authored numerous articles and client alerts and regularly contributes to GLA & Co.’s Anti-Trust & Competition Newsletter.
