Our Attorneys Represent Companies in Complex Disputes Arising in the Middle East

Disputes are inevitable in business, and while companies can resolve many disputes informally with the right approach, litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) will often be necessary. At GLA & Co, our attorneys rely on decades of experience to help our clients achieve favorable outcomes in legal disputes throughout the Middle East. So whether your company needs to take legal action to enforce its rights or protect its assets, or your company needs outside defense counsel, our attorneys have the local knowledge and legal capabilities that are necessary.

In addition to more traditional types of litigation and ADR, there are unique dispute resolution procedures available to commercial parties facing commercial disputes in many Middle Eastern jurisdictions as well. If your company is facing a dispute, we can help you determine the most appropriate forum. We can use our experience to target a positive result as cost-effectively as possible.

We Handle All Types of Disputes

We handle disputes between corporate entities in the Middle East involving substantive issues in all of our practice areas including construction, corporate and commercial disputes.  This includes providing representation for litigation, ADR, and appeals:

Litigation

Our attorneys have complete rights of audience in every jurisdiction that we practice in.  This sets us apart from other law firms in the region that tend to subcontract their litigation work because of not having these rights. If your company (or one of your firm’s clients) is embroiled in a dispute that appears to be headed toward litigation, or if your company (or one of your firm’s clients) has been sued in the Middle East, we can use our extensive local experience to provide strategic and effective legal representation.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

Mediation and arbitration can serve as efficient and confidential alternatives to litigation. We act as Arab Civil Law experts working with international law firms that represent companies in these proceedings when they are required by contract and when they agree with their counterparties to pursue these alternatives rather than litigating their dispute in court.

  • Mediation – Mediation is a form of non-binding ADR in which the parties work with a neutral third-party mediator to negotiate an amicable resolution.
  • Arbitration – Arbitration is a different form of ADR in which the parties present evidence to a neutral arbitrator who renders a binding decision.
  • International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and London Courts of International Arbitration (LCIA) ADR – We have particular experience representing clients in ADR before both the ICC and the LCIA.

Appeals

Several of our firm’s attorneys have experience litigating disputes at the Courts of Appeals and Courts of Cassation levels in the GCC. If your company (or one of your firm’s clients) needs to challenge the outcome of a dispute or defend against an appeal in a MENA jurisdiction, we can help.
