On November 28, 2023, the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia approved the Kingdom’s accession to the Madrid Protocol for international trademark registration. This step aims at simplifying and enhancing the process of trademark registration in 114 countries, enabling efficient management of these registrations, whereby nationals and residents of Member States would easily protect their trademarks in Member States by depositing application with the International WIPO Office through the national office.

The key objectives of such accession also include but not limited to streamlining the registration process for national entities, reducing financial burdens associated with protecting trademarks abroad, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises lacking resources for international trademark protection, and aiding exporters and local industries in safeguarding their brands in targeted member countries.
